Acrylic was first introduced in the United States in 1930. Its chemical name is polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) but it is more commonly known by the brand names Plexiglas or Lucite.
In addition to being attractive, Acrylic is also FDA approved, making it ideal for use in food service applications. Acrylic offers a safe alternative to glass and wood products, reducing problems with breakage (it's many times stronger than window glass) and sanitation.
In order to keep our acrylic products functioning properly, we manufacture most of our food-related products with a rolled or "bull nosed" edge. This edge design is both attractive and safe, eliminating dangerous sharp corners. Flame-polishing edges can stress acrylic, causing it to react with a variety of solvent-based cleaners (including window spray). For this reason, we rarely flame treat the edges of our food-related products unless specifically requested to do so.
Acrylic & CoffeeAlthough we do everything we can to create a durable product, certain coffee flavoring agents (such as hazelnut and vanilla) affect even the best-built display. These ingredients can "out gas", causing hairline cracks near the edges of bins. We greatly reduce this problem by not flame-polishing edges. As noted in the previous section, the flame-polishing process can stress acrylic, making it more vulnerable to the effects of flavoring agents. To further reduce this problem, we manufacture our coffee bean dispensers using a "Cell Cast" acrylic. This material is slightly more expensive than standard acrylic, but much less susceptible to damage from flavoring agents. If you've experienced problems with your bins and flavored coffees, let us know. We rely on our customers for feedback to make our products better!
AcrylicAcrylic is a great material for creating store fixtures, signs and point-of-purchase displays. Acrylic gives designers the flexibility they need to realize their concepts economically. Its versatility and ease of fabrication allows designers to choose from an almost unlimited variety of colors, many standard transparent and translucent colors, and either glossy, smooth matte or textured finishes. Acrylic now comes in a metal, granite and marble finish

PETGPETG (Polyethylene terephthalate, glycol modified) has become the material of choice for displays in demanding retail environments. With impact strength significantly higher than standard acrylic, PETG has proven to be more than a match for impact from shopping carts and other daily rigors of mass merchandising. This material is FDA compliant and is an excellent choice for bulk food bins and other food proximity and food contact applications. PETG is a clear, impact resistant material that easily forms at low temperature with excellent detail reproduction.
Properties of PETG:- High Impact Strength
- Excellent Clarity
- Cold Formable
- FDA Compliant
- Low Forming Temperature
